Express Entry
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): A candidate with at least 1 year of full-time work experience in a skilled field may qualify to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency under the FSWP.
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): A candidate who is qualified or has relevant experience in a skilled trade may qualify to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency under the FSTP.
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC): A temporary foreign worker with skilled work experience in Canada may qualify to apply for Permanent Residency under the CEC.
Business Immigration
Canada’s Business Immigration Programs are meant to attract foreign investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals from outside Canada. The two categories of Business Immigration Programs are:
The Self-employed Persons Program allows an individual to immigrate to Canada permanently as a self-employed person if he/she has relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and is willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada
To qualify for the Start-up Visa Program the candidate must have a qualifying business, have a letter of support from a designated organization, meet the language requirements, and have enough money to settle and live in Canada before making money from the business.
Family Sponsorships
A Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident of Canada who is at least 18 years of age may qualify to sponsor his/her spouse, dependent children, parents, or grandparents to come to Canada. Your relatives can live, study and work in Canada if they become permanent residents of Canada.
In order to sponsor a family member, you should not be a recipient of any social assistance except for disability.
- If you are a Permanent resident of Canada, you must be currently residing in Canada.
- You may need to provide proof of financial ability to support your sponsored family member(s).
- In order to become a sponsor, you need to make an undertaking to financially take care of the persons that you are sponsoring for a certain period of time.
- The person you are sponsoring must also be eligible to come to Canada.
In order to sponsor your spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner to immigrate to Canada, regardless of their gender, you both must be at least 18 years old and legally married, in a common-law relationship or in a conjugal relationship.
You can sponsor your children to come and live in Canada if they are still dependent on family members as per the definition of a dependent family member.
If your dependent children have dependent children, they can also be sponsored by you to come to Canada.
If you are a permanent resident or a citizen of Canada, you can sponsor your orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild if they meet certain requirements.
You can sponsor your own parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada if they are related to you either by blood or adoption. And in case of divorce or separation, you can sponsor your parents’ and your grandparents’ spouses or common-law partners. You must be able to demonstrate that you meet the minimum income requirements for the past three years.
Work Permits
There are 2 types of work permits:
Openwork permits
An open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada.
You can only get an open work permit in specific situations.
Employer-specific work permits
An employer-specific work permit allows you to work with a specific employer according to the conditions on your work permit.
Study Permits

To get a study permit you must meet some of the basic requirements as under:
- A valid letter of acceptance from a chosen Canadian Designated Institution of Learning.
- PAL (Provincial Attestation Letter) from the province where you want to study.
- Valid passport from the country of legal residence.
- No criminal or immigration-related convictions.
- You will leave Canada at the end of your studies.
- You have enough money to support your studies and stay in Canada.
Provincial Nomination
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP): Under this program Canadian provinces and territories have the authority to nominate candidates to meet their unique regional labour market needs by nominating them as Provincial Nominees and making them eligible to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency.
After the province nominates a particular candidate, the extra 600 points thus obtained by this nomination adds to the Express Entry score and increase the chances of getting selected in the Express Entry draw.
Visitor Visa
Canada welcomes several temporary residents every year. There are certain visa-exempt countries, visitors from other countries must apply for a temporary resident visa before traveling to Canada.
Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is issued to:
- Foreign Visitors
- Canadian Work Permit Holders
- International Students
- Super Visa to Parents or grandparents (of Canadian permanent residents or Canadian citizens).
